Stranglers 22.03.13 Cambridge 037

we talked for a thousand years
as we drove across
the bitchin’ wasteland
in search of shakespearoes

through drizzle dark and dreary
in our sleazy charabang
we came to a city in chaos
that teemed with men in black
and strange little girls
just strolling along minding
their own business

through relentless rain
and a wind that bit hard
we dreamt of midnight summer
and arrived at last
to the halls of exchange
where a queue of rodneys
were just hangin’ around

the air in there was pretty thin
but we didn’t go outside
to escape heady aromas
of methane and perspiration
we had enough time
so we waited instead
for the vaunted arrival of
the four horsemen

their gaze was mesmeric
and their instruments brought
forth sound that liquefied
the crowd and transmogrified
us into a pulsating surging amoeba
forgotten words from eons past
burst triumphant from rusty throats
and we sang the anthems of long ago
and stabbed the sky with flailing fists

greying men became young once more
and sallied forth to join the affray
as the gods of strangulation
upped the tempo and demanded
the presence of the nubiles

we sweated and cried and cheered
for more with shouts of encore
until the climax rolled over us
like a Sherman tank over
a horde of sewer rats
and we were the spent casings
of its high velocity shells

we left the great hall
never looking back
and ventured once more
to the wastelands
homeward bound
to where we live
and where there’s
always sun

Dedicated to the awesomeness of Jean-Jacque, Jet, Dave and Baz…but not forgetting the indelible contribution of Hugh without whom much of what has come to pass, wouldn’t have.

Equine Fury

June 13, 2011 3 comments

I have an eclectic cd collection
of which I’m very proud
but I can struggle to make a selection
of what to play on loud

until I settle on one old favourite
a Guns ‘n’ Roses classic
although I know they’ve covered it
it’s awesome metal magic

Slash and Izzy strum their chords
on the track of Wild Horses
to give the crowd their rewards
of mighty guitar forces

the cd is called the Rope And The Colt
tho’ the sound is not the best
it’s an import, a commercial revolt
yet passes the musical test

they like their covers, they really do
(let Spaghetti Incident be the jury?)
so my fave from the GnR crew
is the one by the Stones of equine fury.

tragedy on a tuesday

another jet screams overhead
its trail through the cirrus
like the cum of a god
its invasive roar drowns
everything in close proximity
but soon it’s gone

neighbours talk excitedly
in foreign tongues
perhaps they complain
about the jets
or praise the glorious
weather but above
their conversation
I can hear their stereo
playing the fucking
Bee Gees

it’s a tragedy
but my luck is in
here cums another jet

new love

my affair with Stella
is drawing to a close
I think it was over
the day I met Izzy

but like all first loves
I shall never forget
how I caressed her frets
in the throes of passion

making her squeal in pain
for my touch was too much
and so my love for her
must stay unrequited

Izzy is different
she understands my needs
and we talk together
striking chord after chord

she comes better equipped
to make music with me
and is more experienced
than her predecessor

there’s something else I like
about my new affair…
Izzy, it would appear,
has a lovely sister…

My Affair With Lady Stella

March 23, 2011 45 comments

Got me a new lady in my life
brought her home yesterday
and introduced her to the wife
I didn’t detect any jealousy

I’ve named my lady Stella
but I’ve yet to learn her
language so for now she
just sits in the corner until
its time to talk

I took her to meet a friend
that has a certain way with
ladies such as lovely Stella
and he made her scream in
exquisite pleasure leaving
me as the jealous one

I think it’s the way I touch
her neck as she’s rather
highly strung and fretful
one day I’m sure she’ll
accept my caress and
sing a song for me

I’m honoured this week to have been awarded the following certificate of perfection for this particular poem
I gratefully accept it and in so doing nominate Julian Javer aka Cyber Mushroom for an award

A Night With The Enid

His guitar already spoke
with sweet emotion as he
played with such passion
that I, already entranced,
closed my eyes and was
carried away by lilting
harmonies and melodic
chords that rippled my
senses with electric
enhancement bringing
such pleasure that if I
went deaf right there
I’d have thought I’d
died in silent hell.

I wrote this in response to a Friday night propmpt that I quite enjoy participating in, namely the Friday Flash 55 whereby you have to submit something, anything, whatever….but it can only be 55 words more, no less..and it’s a bit harder than you think. Anyway, the above is what I came up with.

As a really spooky aside, and I guarantee you this is 100% true on my life and the life of everyone and everything I hold dear… as I was writing this I was listening to my favourite radio station, Planet Rock…and I suddenly found myself listening to a song by Sammy Hagar called  ‘I Can’t Drive Fifty Five’.
Like my entry, make of that what you will 🙂
